The community garden is a reflection of the coalition that is Cool Joliet; St. Francis University, Joliet Township, First Presbyterian Church, JACOB, C.A.A.N., City of Joliet, Joliet Job Corps and many dedicated individuals who live both in the immediate vicinity of the garden and from outside, who've come to both share their skills and to learn so they can take action in their community. This project is growing more than food and flowers. It is growing minds, opportunity and community.

There are 10 raised beds, one of which is designed to be more easily assessible for those who are differently physically abled. As this garden continues to grow it is hoped to have other features for those who have abilities other than average.

The lumber used for the beds is treated pine. The lumber was well researched by the chemistry department of St. Francis University and is safe for all mammals. Additionally, the chemistry department will measure and document the lumbers' characteristics over time as part of their curriculum.

Insurance is covered by one of our coalition groups.

Since there are limited number of beds getting one for a growing season (April to October) is by lottery. If you want an application click here then print it. Mail the application portion to Kathy@CJ 1307 Brentwood Place, Joliet, IL 60435. Cost is $40.00 (with $20.00 refund at season's end).

There are no beds available for the 2012 growing season,  but please get on the waiting list.
