Joliet's 21st century renaissance is found in insuring Joliet and the surrounding areas are healthy for all families. The Cool Joliet Coalition organized to encourage action that makes a healthy environment. Cool Joliet's mission is to educate and empower Joliet and area residents about the importance of a healthy and sustainable environment, to encourage related individual and civic actions. Asking the Mayor and City Council of Joliet to have Joliet be designated a Cool City was high on our list because a healthy environment is a collaborative task.

On March 1, 2010 Joliet became the 50th city in Illinois to sign the U.S. Council of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement! Joliet shares this honor with Oak Lawn, IL, Oak Lawn having signed on the same day. Joliet celebrated this historic event April 19, 2010 at the Bicentennial Park.

Cool Joliet is a coalition of groups and individuals that reflect the greater diversity of Joliet and the surrounding area; The Joliet Area Congregation Organized Bodies (JACOB) group of many area churches, First Presbyterian Church of Joliet, the Universalist Unitarian Church of Joliet, Potluck Democracy, Community Alliance and Action Network (C.A.A.N.), Will County Environmental Network, and others. The Cool Joliet Coalition is very much a grassroots, volunteer organization. Please do join us. We welcome all individuals & groups that will work together for common goals in advocating for a healthy environment.

Cool Joliet is an action group. We have several projects an individual or group could be part of. Some projects involve body movement and we can creatively accommodate any physical ability by us working together. Please join us in making Joliet and the surrounding area a truly healthy community in air, water, and food.

We're meeting July 24, 2010 8:30 a.m. at the University of St. Francis. Rain or shine at the site of a future community garden. Near Douglas and Plainfield Rd. (Rt. 30). (marked as Finnegan's Irish Pub on the map) Take part in the 21st century equivalent of an old-fashioned barn raising.

Feel free to (contact) us.
